So, I finally gave in and got the Meta Ray-Bans 2 this year. I really needed a way to record hands-free video, and these looked like the best option around. The downside, however, is something I’ve repeatedly faced with Meta – they’re really data-hungry. I’ve turned off Meta’s AI assistant features on the glasses JUST because I don’t wanna hand over any more info than they already got on me. Then, out of nowhere, I got an email from a company pitching exactly the kind of smart glasses I was looking for.

As someone who’s tried the Ray-Bans, the audio quality often amazes me with how good it actually is.
The glasses come with straightforward hardware buttons, eliminating the risk of accidental inputs that can occur with capacitive surfaces while readjusting them. A capture button on the right stem allows you to activate the camera—with a press for photos and a long-press for videos. Meanwhile, a dedicated AI button on the left summons the AI assistant, and a rotating media crown controls the volume.
The special thing about Looktech lies in its AI capabilities. You can call up the AI assistant using the designated button, or it can be accessed within the Looktech app. Just say “Hey Memo” to engage the AI, letting you capture moments hands-free, get navigation assistance, track daily tasks, and answer calls. You can ask the AI to assist with tasks like noting down where you parked your car or translating signs and menus in foreign countries. Moving beyond something as basic as the ChatGPT app, the Looktech app offers a wide array of features. First off, it helps edit the videos you capture with your glasses (doing something the Meta View app can’t). Beyond trimming and cropping your media, the app’s AI can identify key moments in a video, add soundtrack, input captions, and convert simple recordings into polished videos ready to share online. Plus, it includes mini-apps for specific functions, like transcribing meetings or calls, tracking calorie intake from food images (with surprising accuracy), and identifying plants, with even more mini-apps on the way.
Looktech’s AI runs on the latest leading models like GPT-4o, Claude, and Gemini. It intuitively uses various LLMs to achieve the best possible outcome, proving to be more effective than the sum of its parts. Importantly, it anonymizes data sent to the LLMs, so it can’t build a data profile on you. This is a sharp contrast to Meta’s glasses, which depend exclusively on Meta AI. With Meta, all your data is tied to your profile, which integrates information from Facebook, WhatsApp, and Instagram. This means your data is essentially owned by one company—something Looktech changes. In addition to anonymized processing, TLS and AES encryption keep your data safe from third parties. Essentially, you’re not the product, and your information isn’t something to be sold.
These glasses are undeniably sleek, incorporating all that tech without sacrificing style at all. Most smart glasses from the past were rather bulky, but Looktech looks just like a nicely designed pair of acetate frames. They weigh a mere 37 grams, which solves a problem I had with the Meta Ray-Bans that were over 50 grams and kept sliding down my nose. This is due to the use of TR90 plastic for the outer frame, combined with titanium hinges that provide strength without the heft.
