You know, when I was a kid, one of my dream jobs was to work at LEGO. I always thought it’d be such a cool place to be, with all the creativity bursting from their pieces, it must be from really imaginative people, and of course, the enviornment they work in must foster innovation. In just two years, we’ll see this grand vision come to life in their new workplace, even if I probably won’t be young enough to join their team.
Designer: LEGO Group
The LEGO Group is officially breaking ground on their Innovation Campus, which will serve as a new global hub that’s a true model for creativity and sustainability. Sprawling over 50,000 square meters, this campus will host a variety of LEGO departments, including product marketing, development, gaming, and product quality teams, all centered around a community of over 600 designers. Additionally, it’ll feature the largest library of LEGO elements, boasting an impressive 20,000 unique pieces in 70 different hues.
Staying true to their innovative spirit, this campus is set to feature six interlocking modules with up to four floors each. It’ll include not only workspaces but also play zones, atriums, and even a PlayWay that connects all the “neighborhoods” of the campus. Plus, there’ll be plenty of green spaces, and the structure itself will be constructed using sustainable FSC certified timber. They aim to meet various standards by boosting energy efficiency, ensuring material sustainability, enhancing biodiversity, and supporting water conservation.
The LEGO team even took the effort to involve their employees in the design process of this Innovation Campus. Using, of course, LEGO bricks, they provided input that inspired creativity and helped construct the campus the LEGO way. Located in Billund, Denmark, this exciting project is slated for completion by 2027.
