The Apple Mac mini is credited with making mini PCs fashionable, but like all mini PCs, it faces certain design constraints. It’s a powerful machine given its size, but the sleek and minimalist aesthetics have led to numerous docks and accessories being crafted to address its supposed shortcomings in a stylish manner. A number of docks, for instance, echo the design of the Mac mini to seamlessly blend in with the compact device.

A particularly odd design feature of the new M4-equipped Mac mini is the placement of the power button at the bottom, which requires users to lift the device to switch it on after turning it off. Although there are various workarounds for this peculiar setup, one innovative solution aims to redefine the Mac mini’s identity by transforming it into a genuine miniature version of the latest Mac Pro desktop.

    Designer: ZEERA

Honestly, the design of the Mac Pro can be a bit polarizing even amongst Apple enthusiasts. Following the infamous “trash can” 2013 Mac Pro, the current model earned itself the not-so-flattering moniker of “cheese grater” due to its aluminum structure and its front and back perforations. Meanwhile, the Mac mini has maintained its straightforward box form while adhering to the minimalist design ethos that Apple has always been known for.

The ZEERA MacForge enclosure for the Mac mini M4 completely alters this identity while also positioning the Mac mini vertically. Essentially, this case is termed a cooling case due to its orientation. With the cooling fan now facing outwards, airflow is significantly improved, avoiding blockages typically caused by flat surfaces. In addition, the aluminum body of the case effectively dissipates heat from the Mac mini, enabling a passive cooling setup as well.

This vertical design also fixes the previous oddity regarding the M4 Mac mini. The power button is now much easier to access, as it features a protruding metal button on the side. While this might seem trivial to Mac mini users who typically put their devices to sleep rather than shut them down, those concerned about energy use will certainly notice and appreciate this tiny enhancement.

The ZEERA MacForge case goes beyond simply raising the Mac Pro’s design. It features top handles that allow easy carrying of the Mac mini with one finger. Plus, it comes with elongated vents at the front that are more decorative than actually functional for airflow. Priced at $160 (though currently available for $130 during the pre-order phase), it might appear pricey, but the CNC aluminum construction ensures a level of durability and aesthetic that 3D printed options simply can’t replicate.
