During my time at university, I chose film as my major. I didn’t get much hands-on experience, but some of my best memories come from fiddling with analog video gear like Super 8s and 16mm cameras. Nowadays, kids have it easy with digital equipment, but there’s just somethin’ about those classic cameras that taught old-school filmmakers how to be innovative and flexible.

Given that everything old is coming back in style, it’s no wonder that someone would dream up a functioning Super 8 camera again. Meet the Fusion; it doesn’t just cash in on the nostalgia, but it reimagines what it could look like in today’s era. You get this retro-futuristic vibe while still having some parts that are familiar (at least for those who know what an 8mm camera actually is).
The concept is designed with a rotating handle that you can fold flat, making it easy to take wherever you go. It boasts raised textures for better grip and a built-in lens cap to protect the lens. Plus, there are splashes of color set against the predominantly white design, emphasizing key features of the camera.
As a design concept, it looks really amazing and since I used to mess around with cameras like it, I’d really love to own one. But how well it’ll perform with its analog features and what the development and processing would like is definitely something they’ll need to figure out if it ever goes into production.
