Architect Antony Gibbon has come up with the Burl Treehouse—it’s a creative design featuring rounded treehouse pods. These pods are a unique way for guests to engage with nature and all with a focus on sustainability. Right now, these treehouses are concepts, combining organic looks with minimalistic and understated style. They’re inspired by the natural formation of tree burls, which are those rounded, textured growths found on trunks. Suspended mid-air, these treehouses blend beautifully with the enchanting forest backdrop.

The treehouses are supported by delicate vertical slits and suspension cables, meaning they connect to the trees without harming the forest floor. This clever design allows the pods to appear to float gracefully. You can reach these treehouse pods via timber suspension bridges. Inside, you’ll find light-toned cedar and ash wood, creating a warm, cozy feel. The exterior features charred wood shingles, applying the traditional Japanese shou sugi ban technique, which gives a stunning view to the pods.
Every cabin comes with a bedroom featuring built-in storage, a compact bathroom with a shower, and furnishings that make the space airy yet cozy. And, with the central circular window, natural light pours in, offering breathtaking views of the forest around.
We are curious about how these treehouses will hold up under extreme weather and whether they put significant stress on their natural supports. For now, though, it looks like an intriguing upcoming eco-tourist destination. We’ll just have to wait and see!
