In the world of watchmaking, a few names really stand out by offering a fresh perspective on timepieces with their giant dials. URWERK and MB&F are notable for their unique approach that sets their watches apart from the crowd at first glance. While their designs often lean towards darker tones, this time, URWERK has taken a surprising turn away from its traditional love for black and gray cases.
The Swiss manufacturer has just launched the second version of its 230 series, the UR-230 Polaris, which in its bright white visage, embarks on a quest to reinterpret the essence of the series while maintaining its iconic aesthetics and durability. Following the success of the UR-230 Eagle, crafted from a solid piece of fiberglass-enhanced ceramic in white, the UR-230 Polaris is now here.
Designer: URWERK
This latest model is dressed in a 44.81mm composite case made of ceramic, bringing a fresh perspective to URWERK’s diverse collection. The bright white casing, along with an all-black UR-7.30 caliber movement, creates a striking panda aesthetic. The uniquely designed dial features bold white numerals and a satellite complication, set within a 53.55mm long and 18.38mm thick trapezoidal case that extends towards the 6 o’clock mark.
The UR-230 Polaris showcases a super legible view of the time with a modern design, highlighted by a three-armed carousel presenting four-hour numerals. The current hour pops out on a semicircular section that stretches across the base of the watch from 4 to 8 o’clock.
Not just the white ceramic case catches the eye with the UR-230 Polaris, but the backside is also quite captivating. It features a contrasting black DLC titanium caseback and comes with a vulcanized rubber strap that again is white with black accents on the buckle. The UR-230 Polaris is strictly limited to only 35 pieces, which you can grab for 150,000 CHF (around $169,000).
